Last night I decided to use the curb app and call a taxi instead of an uber since it was 40% cheaper. I get into my cab and upon getting in the driver immediately starts commenting on my looks and race. Telling me “you’re beautiful take it as a compliment I’m not flirting” I ignored it and put on my headphones. The minute I do that he asks if he can go to a gas station for gas. Just for context this is at 4:30am and distance from point A to my home was approximately 10 mins. So I found it bizarre that gas was that much of a necessity but nonetheless I said sure. The entire time I felt extremely uncomfortable. He would not stop asking me where I lived (even though I was going home) and kept staring from the mirror. I haven’t felt this uncomfortable in a yellow cab in a LONG time. The minute I exited I ran into my house and then reported him this morning.
As a native New Yorker I’ve never felt unsafe in a yellow cab but this incident made me feel so vulnerable. I reported the driver but I’m wondering if others have dealt with something similar and how’d you go about it. I wanted to tell him to stfu so bad but I was scared since I’m in a random man’s car at 4 in the morning.
