A few days ago I went to Astor place and after I entered the turnstiles they had a sign up saying “Downtown trains will skip this station overnight”, so I left and used a different subway station nearby (R/W).
I called customer service afterwards to see if I could get the initial subway charge refunded and they told me that they don’t refund rides for “service delays” including if the train isn’t running. They said there is no way to escalate the issue and their “team lead” made the decision.
This seems kinda ridiculous – I don’t care that much about the $2.90 but I’m annoyed by the principle of it. I wasn’t even the only one affected by this – I saw several others confused by the lack of signage and paying for a subway ride that will never come. Has anyone else dealt with a situation like this? Seems like they are encouraging people to hop the turnstile.
