New to NYC, moved three weeks ago (from overseas) and currently appartment hunting. Evidently WV is way outside my budget, much unlike the east village. In the meantime, I’ve been noticing from meme social media accounts that living in “the village” is a status symbol

Has it always been the case ? My mum used to live in NYC late 80s and she lived there but I gather that NYC in this time was very different to now.

How long has this been going on? What will be the next trendy, desirable neighborhood ?
