Does NYC just make everything feel more transactional?

I’ve been living in NYC for a bit now and I’m honestly finding it harder than I expected to build a solid friend circle. Everyone seems busy, already locked into their own routines, or constantly on the move. I meet people here and there, but it rarely turns into anything consistent.

I’m pretty easygoing, enjoy simple things like walking around the city, trying new food spots, casual drinks, or just talking about random stuff. I don’t need anything intense just genuine connections and people to hang out with once in a while.

For those who’ve been here longer, is this normal at first? Did friendships come naturally over time, or did you have to be very intentional about it? Curious to hear other people’s experiences.
