Discriminated for area code?
So the stupidest thing happened to me last night.
For context, I (30M) currently live in Manhattan, but overall new to the lower 48.
Was at a social club last night and ended up talking to a female friend group (3 of them, around my age) and the topic of dating came up.
They mentioned that a guy’s area code matters to them, kind of like an attribute like height / face
212 => the bee’s knees
646 and 718 => okay but not as desirable
908 => Jersey => hard pass (sorry NJ)
I brought up my Alaska area code and they laughed and said I’d have a hard time dating in this city with an area code like that!
I laughed it off, but the more I think about it, the more I think that’s weird!
Is this normal in NYC? Or maybe I missed the memo and it’s just a thing in the lower 48?
