Lately I have been noticing an uptick of those blasting music or having phone conversations on speakermode, people absolutely crowding bus and train doors which makes leaving them a pain and even when I say excuse me I get a sucked teeth response. One thing that has absolutely been grinding my gears are those that will do everything to get in front of you then they turn into the slowest person on the planet.
I’ll give you two examples:
Example 1) I’m walking on the platform on the subway in order to get to the front of the train. One guy is leaning on the metal railing surrounding the staircase about 30 feet away
He is looking at me as I’m coming to from the direction of the train and he clearly sees I’m walking pretty fast. The second I’m about 5 feet away from him he decides to stop leaning walk right in front of me and walk at the slowest pace I have ever seen and because the platform is narrow and other people are standing there I cannot go around him.
Example 2) I’m standing on the bus as we arrive at the stop a lot of people get off at. As I’m about to begin walking off a woman basically jumps out her seat almost grazing my nose in order to get in front of me. As we leave the bus because now I’m right behind her she begins walking extremely slow as her head is buried in her phone. So it’s like you almost broke my nose to get in front of me because you’re in such a hurry yet you’re walking at .1 mph once you leave the bus.
Idk if this leftover social stunting from the pandemic or what. I know we are never going to have a Japanese level of transit etiquette but it just feels like every year it gets worse and worse.
