I just recently watched a Tiktok of a guy who was talking about a dentist scam. He never had any issues with his teeth but a new dentist he went to said he had several cavities and he needed a deep clean for $900. He would go to a different dentist and they said he had no issues. This was in LA.

The same thing happened to me when I first moved to NYC. I’ve never had any issues with my teeth and never had to pay a penny out of pocket going to the dentist. Then this dentist said I had 6 cavities, and said that I urgently needed to do a deep clean for $300.

I eventually found a dentist in the city that’s pretty good, and they said I had no issues except a minor receding gums. At worst they just push Invisalign and Philips products in my face or other things that are covered by my insurance, but nothing worse beyond that.

Wondering if anyone else experienced this in the city. Is there a dentist scam going on?
