How fucked am I

Just moved into a new apartment in bay ridge. When I went to go drop off my first load of stuff, I saw no less than 30 live cockroaches. It was late so all I could do was run to the corner store and buy raid and dose those motherfuckers, but I’m gutted. The previous tenants left quite the mess/food residue, so I’m sure that didn’t help. But upon speaking with some of the other tenants in the building it’s a huge ongoing issue. I plan to get Advion gel, traps, and patch up any potential holes, and of course be as clean as humanely possible.

But it’s a pre war building. They come and spray every Saturday, probably to just barely cover their ass and put a band aid over a bullet hole. I just signed a year lease. 1,800 per month, one bedroom.

I don’t know what to do. I mean, I plan to get an exterminator of my own of course. But since this is clearly a bigger issue, even if we are spotless, I think this would be a temporary measure. Am I doomed?
