(Australian here) I got asked by two Jewish girls if *I* was Jewish, and they offered me what looks like candy. What’s up with that?

It was my first time in NYC last weekend, and while I was walking around, two Jewish girls (I’m assuming they were Jewish), around 14-16, asked me if I was Jewish, and they tried to offer me what looked like candy. I told them I wasn’t Jewish, and they didn’t ask any further questions, they just left.

Is this a normal thing? I’ll be honest, in my small Australian city, there’s literally no Jewish people. I think NYC was the first time I’ve ever seen someone Jewish. I was wondering if I look Jewish? I’m technically Italian-Australian, I have long dark hair, big eyes, thick brows, and a moderate nose.

I’ve just never seen something like that happen before.
