I love indie rock and alt music but I’m so tired of showing up to shows in Bushwick or Williamsburg and being the only Black person there besides maybe the bartender. It’s not that I need a segregated scene, it’s just exhausting to constantly feel like an outlier when you’re trying to enjoy music. I know we exist because I see Black indie fans online and at bigger festivals. But where are y’all hanging out on a regular Tuesday night? Are there specific venues, DIY spaces, or even certain bands that draw a more diverse crowd? I’m talking places like Alphaville or Trans Pecos but with a crowd that actually looks like me. Not looking for a fight about race and music scenes, just want to know where other Black people who like this stuff actually go.
