Left Broadway last night and saw some of those guys riding bikes pulling those passenger seats, and figured I’d take one of them instead of an uber, since they reminded me of the rickshaw drivers I saw in Vietnam, and I figured I’d support a hardworking local. Turns out they charge like 11 dollars a minute.
I considered just biting the bullet since I’m a moron who fell for a tourist trap without asking the price beforehand, but what rubs me the wrong way is that he went to the wrong place at first, stalled and encouraged to take some pictures for the “experience”, and then at the end reveals that he charges per minute by pulling a sign out that was tucked out of sight. It ultimately took about as long as it would have taken if I had just walked, and then he had the audacity to complain about the tip (left an obligatory dollar when prompted, force of habit).
Is that typical of a tourist trap? Or does that make it more of a scam? I’d appreciate your thoughts.
