I am sorry to be grim – I came across the body of a man who had very recently jumped off a building on 23rd street by 7th ave yesterday at 7pm. The cops wouldn’t arrive for another 15 minutes or so, though I thankfully did not see him hit and had my headphones in so I did not hear it. There was some ghoul filming the body and taxi drivers and delivery men nearby, but nobody seemed distraught or like they were doing anything. I tried to stop as many people as I could from walking down the street, which must have looked insane, but I just didn’t want anyone else to see. I was yelling to see if anyone had called for help yet and finally a cab driver said someone had, but I couldn’t believe that nobody was trying to block the area or stop people from walking by or anything like that. when help finally came, I broke into hysterical crying (not my personality). It was so overwhelmingly sad to me that he was so alone and nobody cared, though a few people lovingly checked on me which I appreciated. I can’t find any info about it or him online and I feel like I need to know who he was. I saw another thread where the witness felt similarly, but I just can’t shake the sadness. just two weeks before, I was at another corner where someone jumped but I luckily missed the body because I was on the phone and not looking across the street. I feel so sad for these souls and mad about people’s ambivalence. I’m not sure what posting will do but I guess I was hoping someone else knew who he was or something?
