How to Deal with Homeless Outside Apt

Hi all, I’m a resident of St. Marks Pl in Manhattan and looking for advice on how to deal with the homeless problem outside of my apartment. There’s a group of 15 people who have set up mattresses, couches, and even kitchen appliances right outside my apartment door. They’ve been camped out for nearly a year at this point and it looks like they will be here for the foreseeable future as nothing has been done to remove them yet. They are extremely messy and consistently leave litter everywhere, the smell is rancid, they are constantly fighting and on numerous occasions literally I’ve seen them shooting ups drugs in broad daylight.

I’m a 26 year old female and frankly I don’t feel safe every time I come and go from my apartment, but I cant get out of my lease for another 8 months. It’s to the point where my friends don’t even want to come over anymore for fear of dealing with them.

Before everyone starts telling me I should be more accepting, I want to state that I’ve dealt with this for a year. They weren’t there when I moved in and I’m at the end of my rope with it. These individuals are choosing to live in this high traffic location at an inconvenience to everyone around them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
