How to find a missing person in NYC

My best friend (m28) disappeared in June 2024. He had crazy paranoid thoughts and might have schizophrenia (his mother’s sister has it). He also struggled with heroin addiction. He came to Florida (to my place) to get better and was going to the hospital for methadone treatment. After about a month, he suddenly went back to New York because he believed I was part of “a group watching him.”

Since then, his phone has been off and he hasn’t used social media. He has completely disappeared. His parents and friends are not able to reach him.

I already contacted OCME, and they sent a DNA kit to his family in Poland to check if he might be among dead unidentified people in New York. This is still in progress. I also filed a missing person report with the police last month, but I don’t know how much they will actually do.

I am looking for any advice or resources. Has anyone been through something similar?

Are there: • Hospitals or methadone clinics in NYC that are common for people with addiction, where I could check if he has shown up? • Shelters that share information about who is staying there?

I know they might not give personal details, but I am desperate. I just want some direction. I feel completely lost and hopeless.

P.s. his last place of residence was in Glendale, Queens
