Hi, I work as a RN for NYU Langone in Manhattan. The new NY State lactation break laws allow mothers returning to the workplace to take as many 30-minute paid pumping breaks as needed for up to the first three years of a child’s life. NYU HR is insisting I use vacation time to cover one of my pump sessions of the day, which I know is in violation of Department of Labour guidance.
Is anyone else a RN with NYU that has returned to work recently from maternity leave and is experiencing the same issue? If you work as a RN for NYU and are being granted the pumping breaks you want, can you also share your experience – your shift length, how many pump sessions, etc?
If there are others experiencing what I am, I would like to join forces to correct NYU’s actions.
