Person who I haven’t heard from in 15 years, calls from NYC hospital asking me to “help to get their stuff from a h0t3l”. What to do?

I knew this person for a year, 15 years ago on the other side of the country…… haven’t heard from them since.

They looked my phone number up through a mutual acquaintance. Received a quite rambling voicemail message on my work phone ultimately asking me to “help me by picking some of my stuff up from a h0t3l as I’ve been admitted to south brooklyn hospital”.

I called the patient representative line at the hospital at South Brooklyn Hospital. Told them the story above; they said “they took a note and would look into it and talk to the patient”. No such thing has happened, since the person called back, left a message and asked again.

I really don’t want to be sucked into a messy drama, but also don’t want to ignore it. This sounds like either a mental health crisis, a drug crisis or both. H0t3ls store stuff! Taskrabbits exist? Hospitals provide services for patients?

Advice? How can I help this person without getting sucked into their life?

Edit: I know the person is who they say they are based on who they contacted and their voice. Too low key for an elaborate scam, methinks this is desperation. It was a voice message not text.

Edit 2: I had to spell the word with numbers because asknyc auto-deletes any question with that word spellled out because it assumes it is about non-nyc resident questions.

Edit 3: they found/obtained my work number:it is searchable if you know my place of work and name. they are calling from a hospital phone. there is no way to block the number. almost certain it is a psych ward.
