I’m in my early 20s and never went out during undergrad unless friends insisted. This past year, I went through a lot this last year that affected my mental health and I gained a lot of weight. I now find myself ~275 lbs and wayyy more insecure than before, but I’m determined to start living life to the fullest.
My friend is coming to visit me for Halloween and wants to go out in Manhattan, but I always hear horror stories about bigger girls getting turned away. I don’t want to experience that again, I already had it happen to me when I was less heavy than I am now. My friend has also always been thin and while she would never let me feel bad about it or abandon me, of course it’s just still embarrassing and something I would very much like to avoid.
There are a bunch of Halloween events so I’m considering purchasing tickets for something, but I’m not sure how worth it the event would be or if they would still turn me away based on my appearance. Are there any places folks could recommend that are inclusive, have good music, and a crowd ranging from early 20s to early 30s? While researching I kept seeing House of Yes and other Brooklyn locations, which I’m not opposed to, but I’m in the Bronx so the commute feels like a lot.
This is my first Reddit post ever despite being a lurker for years, so please be kind and know I’m super desperate to do this.
