Hello everyone, my name is Mike and I am 21, living in NYC. This Monday I moved into my first apartment and I’m enjoying it, except for this recent incident. A couple days ago around 7am police knocked on my door, they only knocked once mind you so by the time I got up to check it, they left. I still was trying to figure out why they were at my apartment. I am the only person that lives in the building. Anyways, I brushed it off. Last night I got home at 2:24am and about 11 minutes later as I’m dozing off, I hear loud banging on my door followed by “Police open up!”. I was scared to death. I got up and checked the peephole and seen 3 officers with their guns drawn at me. As I’m writing this I’m getting emotional because this has never happened to me and it is VERY traumatic to me. I opened up, they asked me why I was here, “I said I live here”. They came inside, I cooperated, showed them my ID and my lease and the look on their faces said “why the Fuck are we here?” They ended up explaining to me that somebody from security/management called the police because they thought I broke into my apartment… ???. I have keys, used them and the cameras saw that. They ended up leaving and apologizing for the inconvenience but the image of guns drawn out on me by multiple people never left.

What can I do about this? I’m 21, never went to court to sue anybody before so I don’t know how to go about it. One mistake could’ve led to me dying in my own apartment.
