Answered, thanks for the responses guys. I’ll be more careful. Turning off notifications.
This happened in Midtown a few weeks ago. I was walking down the street when I became aware that I was being followed. I’m 5’2 and could pass for a middle schooler with a mask, so this was alarming. Out of the corner of my eye, I see him. He’s a kid, definitely younger than me, but taller than me. Clothes that weren’t visibly ragged or dirty. I abruptly stop to tie my shoe and he bumps into me but remains behind me.
I go into a busy store. He’s still following me. I walk around quickly, go through every aisle, he’s still doing it. I stop to browse a shelf and he’s like three inches to my side. I didn’t tell a store employee because I was curious to see where this was going so I didn’t confront him.
The curiosity wore off quickly. I go back outside and start booking it down the street because I’m not tryna die. He started running too, I heard him, but I had more stamina and lost him a few blocks later. He was making this animal-like yelping whining sound as he ran. He was not there when I reached a train station and left. I checked my pockets and backpack and nothing was stolen.
So wtf did he want from me?
Edit: mental illness and/or tiktok and/or maybe racism and/or thievery attempt
Edit2:
-Am male and east asian. The follower was not east asian. That’s the extent of my knowledge.
-Yes, my outlook on the situation changed quickly. I don’t know why I did that. It was a dumb move not going to an employee and I don’t have an explanation.
-I asked because I wanted to know if anyone else had gone through something similar and could share more info.
-It was March in the afternoon, I bought D&D paladin cards some time before or after the follower incident, went to see a play in Tribeca, and had dinner at los tacos. You can believe whatever you want.
