Was in UWS heard a dog barking in a car that was double parked, car turned off with windows slightly cracked seemingly nobody was alarmed. I stood by the car and called 911 telling them I was afraid the dog could overheat didn’t know how long it was there for. Owner came out and I said what are you doing I said it’s dangerous to leave dog in the car police are coming. She said the windows are down and she “does it all the time”. I told her I called NYPD and they have her plate number and what she is doing reckless and animal abuse. I took photo of dog and license plate for NYPD. She drove off (wasn’t going to stand in front of car clearly she wasn’t sound of mind) and showed the police officer the photos.

Did I handle the situation as you would have or am I missing something?
