Genuine question from someone who grew up in Park Slope it feels like so many people I know have a house (or access to one) in the Hamptons, and I’ve never been. Every summer there’s this mass migration out to The Hamptons, and I’m just sitting here wondering… what am I missing?
Is it just a status thing? Or is the beach actually better? Is the vibe really that different from the Jersey Shore or even just staying in the city and going to Rockaway or something?
I’ve never done the “summer in the Hamptons” thing. No one in my family had a house out there, and it always kind of felt like something other people did. But now I’m starting to wonder is there something special about it? Is there some sort of NYC rite of passage I skipped?
Would love to hear from folks who go regularly what’s the actual appeal? What’s the difference between a Hamptons weekend and a Jersey Shore weekend?
