You can live in queens, in areas such as woodside or jackson heights or flushing, and rent a cheaper one bedroom. Sure you won’t have the amenities you’d find in SF, but you would be able to save way more money. It wouldn’t be much more expensive than living in Chicago for example at that point.
I feel like a lot of ppl think the average rent in nyc is 5k, which is true, but maybe in manhattan. Most ppl are obsessed with living there even if you can find much better value right outside.
In SF, you would be hard pressed to find any place within commutable distance to the city with one bedrooms less than 3k. Factor in utilities, car, caltrain, and nyc seems like a much better deal.
Also, groceries are cheap outside manhattan. So is dining if you don’t go to fancy manhattan sit down restaurants
