I’d like to start a thread on things you should do along with getting unemployment benefits that can assist in day to day living. I have an original post in r/UnemploymentNY as well.
Health Insurance – This is markedly easier than it was ever before, If you’re unemployed with no health benefits you can get it almost immediately by getting in touch via the phone. information here: https://nystateofhealth.ny.gov/
Verizon FIOS – I was able to get my 120/mo 2gig FIOS reduced to $79/mo through the Affordable Broadband Act. I simply told them I was on Medicaid. https://access.nyc.gov/programs/affordable-broadband-act/
Reduced MTA Fares via Fair Fares – https://a069-access.nyc.gov/accesshra/fairfares
Cash Assistance – Placeholder
SNAP – Placeholder
Before I get any crap from the peanut gallery — I’ve lived in NYC for 20 years working in the tech industry. I’ve paid my fair share of taxes. There are unprecedented layoffs and the economy is very difficult, this isn’t my life.
